Waitrise has worked with Fairtrade brands, such as Cafédirect, for more than 20 years and is committed to supporting suppliers in the long term.
In 2019 Waitrose became the first European retailer to sell Fairtrade coffee from Java, Indonesia.
Since 2020, all Waitrose own-label tea, coffee and sugar products, and the cocoa used in confectionery, have been 100% Fairtrade.
In 2020, Waitrose also launched a project with ASOPEP, a Fairtrade cooperative in Colombia, whose coffee goes into the John Lewis and Waitrose café blend.
Waitrose actively supports Fairtrade Fortnight with offers on Fairtrade products in store and online, highlighting recipes that use Fairtrade ingredients and sharing the stories of the farmers and workers who grow our food. Waitrose also provides local support to the Fairtrade Guernsey Steering Group, through the Community Matters scheme, in-store campaigns and resources for events.
