1. Tell us a bit about your organisation
The GSPCA has more than 148 years of helping animals and the community and our values being CARING (Collaborative, Active, Respectful, Inclusive, Nurturing and Grateful) we not only help 1000’s of animals a year and support the community in a huge range of ways we also support many other likeminded initiatives such as Fairtrade. With over 3000 animals through our doors each year, many more helped out on the roads we work 24/7 365 days a year but wouldn’t exist without volunteers, our team and the support of you the public.
2. Where can people find you?
The GSPCA has moved around the island but in 1929 we purchased the site in St Andrews where we have been for over 90 years but like most charities you can easily find us despite lockdown online at our website www.gspca.or.gg and our various social media pages
3. What products do you use or supply that are certified Fairtrade?
We sell a range of Fairtrade Divine Chocolate products and also the supplies for the team such as coffee, sugar and tea and we strive to ensure we support Fairtrade and similar organisations with ethical products whether it be for humans or animals wherever we can.
4. How long have you been using or supplying Fairtrade (approximately)?

5. Do you support Fairtrade in any other ways (e.g. Fairtrade Fortnight events)?

6. Why is supporting Fairtrade important to you and your business?
Our values, aims, objectives, caring values, vision from thinking of the environment to supporting our community align themselves in many ways to Fairtrade and we have strived to support Fairtrade for what will be 10 years this September. Animal welfare can only be improved where there is a community where human life is valued and by supporting Fairtrade it means we are helping other communities and their animals have a better quality of life.
7. Do you support any other environmental or community initiatives, either locally or worldwide?
We support a wide range of environmental and community initiatives such as locally we have been involved with many environmental projects, educate locally throughout the community, work with Floral Groups, Pollinator Project, RSPB, other animal and wildlife organisations, we help over 2000 wild animals a year, attend conservation and environmental meetings and groups. We source products like cat little and products from renewable sources where we can, recycle wherever we can, reduce waste and have transformed our site to help wildlife not to mention the Guernsey Beekeepers have their training apiary on site at the GSPCA. We have also worked with Born Free and a number of other world wide charities caring for lion cubs to monkeys, getting sea turtles back to their native waters and so much more. As well as all of this daily and weekly we share messages about our work helping and saving animals and how the community to support this so we have a bright future for our environment and the next generation.
