1. Tell us a bit about your business
Artex is an insurance risk management company, providing innovative solutions to allow clients to manage their exposure based on their risk appetite. In Guernsey we currently have 89 employees working in various roles with the ultimate goal of supporting our clients who range from individuals to multi-national household name corporations. Artex is an International operation with offices in London, Malta, Gibraltar, Bermuda and Cayman as well as North America, employing over 500 professionals.

3. What products do you use or supply that are certified Fairtrade?
Our tea and coffee in the office for employees and clients is all Fairtrade, this includes Arabica coffee, Decaff, classic teabags and peppermint tea. As soon as our current stock of sugar is exhausted we will be switching to Fairtrade sugar as well.
4. How long have you been using or supplying Fairtrade (approximately)?
Many, many years but we became official Fairtrade supporters in 2018.
5. Do you support Fairtrade in any other ways (e.g. Fairtrade Fortnight events)?
Over the last three years we have run a number of initiatives to raise awareness and funds for this important cause. In 2018 we celebrated our Fairtrade supporter status with a bake sale where all of the treats had to have at least 2 Fairtrade ingredients, with donations going to the steering group. In 2019 we provided each employee with a Fairtrade chocolate bar to raise awareness of the Fairtrade Fortnight and in 2020 we worked with the Steering Group on a Business Brief campaign to encourage more Guernsey business supporters locally.
Throughout our involvement we have also donated a raffle prize annually to the draw that takes place at the Fairtrade fundraising quiz.
6. Why is supporting Fairtrade important to you and your business?
To advocate for more sustainable trading is incredibly important and fits alongside our core business model which is, as risk managers, to help protect for the future.
The work we do is based on client relationships and therefore we appreciate that our employees are the most valuable asset to the ongoing success of Artex Risk Solutions. Supporting Fairtrade is a way in which we can help workers in a very different industry and environment earn a fair price for their product and be valued adequately for the work they do.
7. Do you support any other environmental or community initiatives, either locally or worldwide?
Within Artex Guernsey we have a charitable fund and support various good causes throughout the year and in 2019 we specifically raised funds for Guernsey Chest and Heart and our employees spent time painting the outside of their newly renovated building at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital.
