In 2019, White Stuff became the only British lifestyle brand to sign a three-year commitment to increase the amount of Fairtrade Sourced Cotton that it purchased every single year. White Stuff partnered with Fairtrade to produce a range of tees, dresses and polos using the Fairtrade Sourced Cotton model. This commitment with Fairtrade supports the people at the beginning of the supply chain – the farmers who sow, grow and harvest the raw cotton. Fairtrade ensures that they earn a fair price for their cotton and a Fairtrade Premium. Farming communities can decide to use this Premium to invest in improvements like irrigation systems, schools and better access to doctors.
White Stuff understands the problems the global cotton industry causes for its workers and the environment, which is why they’re working to use less conventionally grown cotton. As well as buying more Fairtrade sourced cotton White Stuff is increasing its use of Organic cotton each year. Organic cotton is grown from non-genetically modified seeds and without the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilisers, meaning it’s better for soil health.
