Children’s competition – design a Fairtrade birthday cake!

Fairtrade is 30 years old this year, and we are challenging Guernsey’s schoolchildren to design a special birthday cake to celebrate!

You have between now and the end of Fairtrade Fortnight (which runs from 9th to 22nd September 2024) to work on your entry. The cake should use Fairtrade certified ingredients that are available to buy locally. The design should be original, celebratory, and reflect Fairtrade principles. The artwork can be digital, or you can write and draw by hand – but please use our template, which can be downloaded here.

The competition will be judged in three age categories:

1. Primary school years Reception to Year 2

2. Primary school Years 3 to 6

3. Secondary school Years 7 to 11

The winner of each group will have the chance to bring their invention to life alongside a professional cakemaker from one of our three partners hotels – Old Government House Hotel, Anni’s Hideaway at Moores, and the Dessert Bar at Hotel Jerbourg.

The closing date is Monday 23rd September 2024. Entries must be marked with your name, school and age on the front or in the file name, if sending digitally. Entries can be submitted directly by emailing them to [email protected], or through your school.
